Diamond painting is a relaxing craft that combines a printed adhesive canvas with colorful resin drills. If you can match symbols and colors, you can create a sparkling piece of art—no painting experience required.
What you need
- A diamond painting canvas
- Resin drills
- An applicator pen and wax
- A drill tray
- Storage containers or small labeled bags
1. Prepare your workspace
Choose a clean, flat surface with good lighting. Unroll the canvas and place books on the corners for a short time if it needs help lying flat. Keep the clear protective film on the canvas.
2. Organize the drills
Match each drill packet to the symbol chart printed on the canvas. Pour only one color into your tray at a time and label storage containers before transferring loose drills.
3. Work in small sections
Peel back only a small part of the protective film. Starting in a corner helps protect completed areas and keeps your hand away from exposed adhesive.
4. Load the applicator pen
Press the pen tip gently into the wax, then touch the tip to the faceted side of a drill. Place the drill over its matching symbol without pressing too hard.
5. Keep rows straight
Place drills along the printed grid and periodically use a straightening tool or the edge of a clean ruler to align rows. A light board can make symbols easier to read.
6. Finish and protect your artwork
When the canvas is complete, cover it with the protective sheet and gently press the drills into place with a roller or a flat book. Check for loose drills before displaying or framing it.
Beginner reminder
Take your time. Short, comfortable sessions are often more enjoyable than trying to finish quickly. The goal is a relaxing creative experience and an artwork you are proud to display.
